Whitecaps FC and BC Soccer announce additions to Girls Elite REX technical staff

Vancouver Whitecaps FC and BC Soccer announced today three additions to the technical staff for the Girls Elite Regional EXCEL Centre (REX) Program in Partnership with BC Soccer, including assistant coach Adam Day, goalkeeper coach Mike Norris, and technical analyst Julie King.
“We’re excited to welcome a first class group to our technical staff with the additions of Adam, Mike, and Julie,” said Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX head coach Jesse Symons. “Each of them bring tremendous experience that will be invaluable to the REX program. This shows the level of commitment that our stakeholders have put into developing players through the Canada Soccer Pathway.”
“Adam, Mike and Julie bring a tremendous amount of experience to the REX program and we are very excited to welcome each of them to the program,” said Rob Csabai, BC Soccer REX Director. “Each one of them bring a specific skill set to the program that will ultimately help each and every player develop.”
A UEFA A License coach, Day returns to Whitecaps FC after working with the club’s U-23 United Soccer Leagues (USL) Premier Development League (PDL) team in 2014, as the ‘Caps qualified for the PDL playoffs for the second time. Day also worked with Whitecaps FC when the club took part in the Super-Y League as U-15 girls head coach. The native of London, England was previously head coach of the Quest University men’s soccer team and has experience working for Charlton Athletic in England and with Arsenal FC at their Academy in Greece. Most recently, Day was head coach of Surrey United’s U-17 boys and U-16 girls’ teams in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) and director of football at West Coast FC here in BC.
Norris brings a wealth of experience coaching goalkeepers, notably at the National EXCEL U-14 to U-17 and U-18 to U-20 development camps. Most recently, the native of Newcastle, England has spent the past two years working with the University of British Columbia (UBC) women’s soccer program as goalkeeper coach, as well as with BCSPL club Mountain United FC. Prior to his time at UBC, Norris was assistant coach of both the men’s and women’s teams at Quest University. Norris is also the head coach of the Simon Smith Goalkeeping Academy and holds Level 2 Coaching and Goalkeeper Coaching Certificates from The Football Association (FA) in England.
King brings over 15 years of technical experience. Currently, she is head coach of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University women’s soccer program, and was previously the technical director for women’s soccer with Fraser Valley Premier in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League. King, a Provincial B license and English Football Association Level 2 coach, is completing her Canadian Soccer Association B license. King also brings experience as a BC Soccer Provincial Development Coach.
