VANCOUVER, BC – Home at last.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC League1 BC women's team will play a historic first home match in the Concacaf W Champions Cup this coming Tuesday, October 1 at BC Place against National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) side San Diego Wave FC.

Kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m. PT, with tickets available at ticketmaster.ca/whitecaps. For fans also interested in attending the Portland Thorns match on October 15, there is a 2-Match Pack.

For those not able to make it out to BC Place, the match will be broadcast live on Concacaf YouTube and Concacaf Go.

How they got here?

The 'Caps League1 BC women's side are built mostly on youth players between the ages of 15 and 17 from the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy, part of the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy System, and boosted by a few more experienced additions.

They qualified for the Group Stage after a monumental 1-0 win over eight-time El Savadorian champions Alianza Women FC in the Preliminary Round, courtesy of a penalty kick goal from 17-year-old Coquitlam, BC native Emily Wong - the first goal in Concacaf W Champions Cup history! Of the 22 players on the roster, 16 were teenagers.

Katie Collar's young side then faced a stiff challenge against one of the very best professional clubs in the region, falling to Club América Femenil.

However, they rebounded by making more history with their first group stage victory, on the road at Panamanian champions Santa Fé FC.

Now they return home for two exciting matches against the best of the NWSL, first facing 2023 NWSL Shield and 2024 NWSL Challenge Cup winners San Diego Wave.

Who are San Diego Wave?

Established in 2021, they played their first NWSL season in 2022.

The Wave are led by Canadian national team goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, named NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year in 2022. There is also a direct connection to the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy, with Mya Jones having graduated from the program before excelling at the University of Memphis and then getting selected by San Diego in the 2024 NWSL draft.

Currently, the Wave are coached by former United States men's national team player Landon Donovan, and are sitting in 10th place in the NWSL standings.

Group B

San Diego are tied for first place in the group with six points, while the 'Caps are just three points behind.

The group winners and runners-up (four clubs in total) will progress to the semifinals and ultimately the third place match and final, which is set to take place from May 22 to 25, 2025.
