Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX, in partnership with BC Soccer, took part in the first Nandos Cup tournament on the weekend, taking on local university competition at Surrey's Newton Athletic Park. The tournament was hosted by Douglas College.
In their first match on Saturday, the 'Caps defeated UBC Okanagan by a score of 3-0.
Jordyn Huitema
,
Emma Cunningham
, and
Reese Moffatt
all scored for the Blue and White, while goalkeeper
Abigail Hunt
earned the shutout in net.
In the final on Sunday, the 'Caps took on UBC, who featured a number of Whitecaps FC alumni from the Girls Elite program. Huitema, a member of the U-17 women's national team, scored for WFC, but the Thunderbirds eventually came out with a 2-1 victory. There was clear learning for the younger 'Caps, who last fell 3-0 to UBC in a February 28 match.
All in all, it was another successful weekend for the Girls Elite REX program as players continue to develop for Canadian national team programs and prepare for their university careers.
