INDIGENOUS PEOPLES CELEBRATION MATCH: Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to bounce back this week as they host their fourth annual Indigenous Peoples Celebration Match at BC Place against Western Conference foes St. Louis CITY SC. Alongside Hope and Health, the 'Caps celebrated two mini-pitch openings in Indigenous communities last week. Last Monday, the Sts'ailes Strong Mini-Pitch was opened, with Sts'ailes member and former 'Caps forward Terry Felix in attendance. Then, on Thursday, the Cowichan Strong Mini-Pitch was unveiled, becoming the eighth pitch opened by Hope and Health, in partnership with Whitecaps FC. Several activations are set to take place this Saturday, as the club celebrates the cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples.
BUSY STRETCH: Saturday's match against St. Louis will be the last home match for the 'Caps before a busy stretch to begin the month of July. After the match, the Blue and White begin a four-game away stretch as they face Minnesota United FC on Wednesday, July 3 and will quickly turn their focus to a Canadian rivalry match against CF Montréal on Saturday, July 6. The 'Caps will then return to BC for their TELUS Canadian Championship semifinal first leg against Pacific FC on Wednesday, July 10, before facing St. Louis once again on Saturday, July 13. This week was the 'Caps last full week of training with the congested July schedule ahead.
MAKING GAMES COUNT: Despite sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference heading into Matchday 23 action, Vancouver will want to make their upcoming games count as they have have two games in hand on several teams around them in the standings. That all starts with getting a result on Saturday against St. Louis, having claimed a resounding 3-0 victory at BC Place in the previous meeting last October. Following their four away matches at the start of July, the 'Caps will have eight of their final 12 regular season matches at home.
