VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men’s national team for an upcoming FIFA International friendly in March.
The Designated Player will be joining his national team for a friendly against Chile on Monday, March 27 at Estadio Monumental David Arellano in Macul, Chile, with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. PT.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 13 times since 2020, making 11 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and friendly competition. The midfielder last suited up for Paraguay in an international friendly against Colombia on November 20 at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
Cubas has started each of the 'Caps first three matches so far across all competitions in 2023.
In his first season with the 'Caps, the midfielder started 19 of his 20 appearances across all competitions, recording the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win against Los Angeles FC on July 2 and leading the team in both interceptions as well as tackles won.
