Six 'Caps players called up for October international window

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Wednesday that Ali Ahmed (Canada), Sam Adekugbe (Canada), Andrés Cubas (Paraguay), Ryan Gauld (Scotland), Fafa Picault (Haiti), and Pedro Vite (Ecuador) have been called up to their respective national teams for the October international window.

Ali Ahmed and Sam Adekugbe are set to join up with Canada's men's national team for an international friendly against fellow Concacaf rivals Panama on Tuesday, October 15, with kickoff from BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario set for 4:30 p.m. PT. In addition to Adekugbe and Ahmed, six former Whitecaps FC alum were named to the roster in Theo Bair, Derek Cornelius, Maxime Crépeau, Alphonso Davies, Richie Laryea, and Jonathan Sirois, along with BC natives Niko Sigur and Joel Waterman.

Andrés Cubas will look to help Paraguay vault up the CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifying standings with two crucial matchups on the docket. First up, Cubas and his country will face Pedro Vite and Ecuador on Thursday, October 10 at Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium in Quito, Ecuador. Kickoff for the match is set for 2 p.m. PT. Paraguay will then wrap up the window with a home match against Venezuela on Tuesday, October 15 at Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción, Paraguay. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT.

After making his international debut in the previous window, Ryan Gauld has received his second consecutive call-up to Scotland's men's national team. Scotland is set to compete in a pair of UEFA Nations League matches this window, first taking on Croatia in an away match this Saturday, October 12 at Stadion Maksimir in Zagreb, Croatia (kickoff at 9 a.m. PT), and then hosting Portugal on Tuesday, October 15 at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland (kickoff at 11:45 a.m. PT).

Fafa Picault will join Haiti's men's national team for a pair of matches against Aruba in Concacaf Nations League action. The first clash is set to take place on Friday, October 11, with kickoff at 5 p.m. PT, and the second match on Monday, October 14, with kickoff at 5 p.m. PT. Picault has recorded five assists in his last five appearances for his country.

Lastly, Pedro Vite has received his third call-up to Ecuador's men's national team, with the group set to play a pair of key CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifiers. Their first match will see Vite face Cubas and Paraguay on Thursday, October 10 at Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium in Quito, Ecuador, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. PT. Ecuador will then hit the road for an away match against Uruguay on Tuesday, October 15 at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. PT.

Ahmed, Adekugbe, Cubas, Gauld, Picault, and Vite will be unavailable for the 'Caps regular season home finale against LAFC on Sunday, October 13 at BC Place. Tickets to the match are still available www.whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
