Andrés Cubas called up to Paraguay's men's national team for March international window

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men's national team for their March international window.

The Designated Player will be looking to help his country continue their surge in the CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifying standings with two crucial matchups. First up, Paraguay will host Chile on Thursday, March 20 at Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción, Paraguay, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. PT.

Cubas and Paraguay will then wrap-up their international window on Tuesday, March 25 with a visit to Colombia. Kickoff from Estadio Metropolitano in Barranquilla, Colombia is set for 5 p.m. PT. With six matches remaining in the qualifying campaign, Paraguay sit in the sixth and final World Cup spot in the standings with a 4W-3L-5D record (17 points), as they hope to qualify for their first World Cup since 2010.

Cubas will miss the 'Caps MLS regular season home match against Chicago Fire on Saturday, March 22.

Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 26 times since 2020, making 23 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa América and friendly competition. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

So far this season, Cubas has started six of his eight appearances across all competitions in 2025.

All-time, Cubas has made 94 starts and 101 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding a goal as well as nine assists.
