Brian White hat-trick FTW!

VANCOUVER, BC – A hat-trick from Brian White led the way for Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday in a huge 3-0 home win over San Jose Earthquakes at BC Place.

The match marked Indigenous Night at BC Place, with over 500 members from the community attending the game.

Acting head coach Vanni Sartini made six changes to the side that drew 0-0 away to Houston Dynamo FC at BBVA Stadium on Wednesday. Florian Jungwirth returned to the lineup in place of Michael Baldisimo at centre back, Bruno Gaspar came in at right wingback for Javain Brown, Russell Teibert came back into the starting lineup in place of Janio Bikel at right centre midfield, Ryan Gauld returned to the starting lineup for Ryan Raposo at centre attacking midfield, while Déiber Caicedo and White came into the lineup up top in place of Patrick Metcalfe and Lucas Cavallini, moving Cristian Dájome to left wingback.

The 'Caps were in full control early on, carrying more than 70 per cent of possession after the first 10 minutes of play, highlighted by a brilliant run from Teibert into the box that resulted in a shot on goal from Gauld.

Perseverance finally paid off in the 25th minute. Leo Owusu made a brilliant run through midifield, finding White for a one-time pass to Gauld. After Gauld had his shot saved, White put in the rebound to give Whitecaps FC a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

It turned out to be White's night, as the 'Caps in-season acquisition would use his head to put the match away.

The first came on a free kick from Caicedo in the 59th minute, and the hat-trick goal off a corner kick from Ryan Gauld in the 73rd minute.

Next up for the 'Caps is a Cascadia road battle against Seattle Sounders FC next Saturday, October 9 at Lumen Field. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. PT live on TSN and AM730, with the radio pre-match starting at 5 p.m. PT.
