VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Saturday that midfielder Andrés Cubas has been named to Paraguay's men's national team's final roster for the 2024 Copa América.
Paraguay have been drawn into Group D alongside Brazil, Colombia, and Costa Rica. Cubas and his country will open up the tournament against Colombia on Monday, June 24 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT.
The second match sees Paraguay take on Brazil on Friday, June 28 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. PT.
Lastly, Paraguay will wrap up group stage play on Tuesday, July 2 against Costa Rica at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. PT.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 19 times since 2020, making 17 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa América and friendly competition. Most recently, Cubas has started both of Paraguay's pre-Copa América friendlies. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
So far this season, Cubas has started 14 of his 15 appearances across all competitions for the 'Caps, recording two assists and leading the team in passing accuracy with 92% (minimum 100 passes).
All-time, Cubas has made 69 starts and 72 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding a goal as well as six assists.
