Andrés Cubas called up to Paraguay's men's national team for upcoming international friendly

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Wednesday that midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men's national team for an upcoming international friendly this month.

The Designated Player will be joining his national team for a match against Russia on March 25 at VTB Arena in Moscow, Russia. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m. PT.

Cubas will depart on March 17 to join up with Paraguay and will return to Vancouver on March 26 ahead of the 'Caps Cascadia clash against Portland Timbers on March 30 at BC Place. The defensive midfielder will miss the Blue and White's home match against Real Salt Lake on March 23.

Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 18 times since 2020, making 16 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and friendly competition. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

So far this season, Cubas has started three matches across all competitions for the 'Caps, including the team's most recent 2-0 away victory over San Jose Earthquakes where he recorded four interceptions, five successful tackles, and 11 successful duels.

All-time, Cubas has made 58 starts and 60 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding a goal as well as four assists.
