VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's men's national team for upcoming CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifiers in September.
The Designated Player will be joining his national team for a pair of matches. First up, Paraguay face Uruguay on Friday, September 6 at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m. PT.
Cubas and his country will then wrap up their international window on Tuesday, September 10 as they host Brazil at Estadio Defensores del Chaco. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PT. Heading into the two matches, Paraguay sit seventh in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying table with a record of 1W-3L-2D.
Cubas will miss the 'Caps MLS regular season home match against FC Dallas on Saturday, September 7.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 22 times since 2020, making 20 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa América and friendly competition. Most recently, Cubas has started two of Paraguay's matches at the 2024 Copa América. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
So far this season, Cubas has started 22 of his 24 appearances across all competitions for the 'Caps, recording four assists and leading the team in passing accuracy with 91.6% (minimum 100 passes).
All-time, Cubas has made 77 starts and 81 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in April 2022, adding a goal as well as eight assists.
