VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Andrés Cubas has been called up to Paraguay's national team for upcoming CONMEBOL 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Qualifiers in September.

The Designated Player will be joining his national team for a pair of matches in the opening round of qualifiers. First up, Paraguay host Peru on Thursday, September 7 at Estadio Antonio Arando in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. PT.
Cubas and his country will wrap up the window with an away match against Venezuela and fellow 'Caps teammate Sergio Córdova on Tuesday, September 12 at Monumental Stadium of Maturín in Maturín, Venezuela. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. PT.
Born in Argentina, Cubas has represented Paraguay at the international level 14 times since 2020, making 12 starts in World Cup Qualifying, Copa America and friendly competition. The midfielder last suited up for Paraguay in an international friendly against Chile on March 27. Cubas previously played for Argentina at the U-20 level, where he started two of his three appearances for the side at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
This season, Cubas has started 28 of his 29 appearances across all competitions for the ‘Caps, recording three assists and earning himself the club’s Player of the Month award for March. The midfielder also sits in the top 10 in MLS for interceptions and was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for his performance against Los Angeles FC on Matchday 21. In July, Cubas agreed to a Designated Player contract extension with the ‘Caps through to the end of 2026, with a club option for 2027.
All-time, Cubas has made 47 starts and 49 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC, adding a goal as well as three assists.
