BURNABY, BC – Whitecaps FC 2 captured their second consecutive victory in MLS NEXT Pro with a 4-1 win over Western Conference rivals Sporting Kansas City II at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC.
Inside the opening minutes of the first half, SKC II forward Guy Michaeli hit a shot off the crossbar after getting in behind the WFC2 backline.
However, WFC2 answered back with the opening goal of the match in the 23rd minute, as Simone Masi thumped home the rebound to score his first professional goal to give WFC2 the 1-0 lead.
In a quick turn of events, the home side doubled their lead in the 25th minute off a quick counter attack, with Emiliano Brienza scoring his second goal of the season.
Fast forward to the second half, Giovanni Aguilar sent an over the top through ball to Filip Rakic, who gave WFC2 a 3-0 lead in the 66th minute after rounding SKC II goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh.
However, SKC II responded with a goal themselves by defender Michael Lenis in the 71st minute as his cross zipped in past WFC2 goalkeeper Ben Alexander.
WFC2 would extend their lead to 4-1 in the 84th minute as Ali Ahmed sent Joe Hanson in on goal, who smashed in his first goal of the season.
