Whitecaps FC 2 sign midfielder Danny Flores

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Sunday that the club has signed midfielder Danny Flores to a Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) contract in MLS NEXT Pro. Flores is signed through 2025, with an option for 2026.

Flores, who turns 23 today, was most recently with fellow Western Conference side Sporting Kansas City. Flores spent the majority of his time with the club playing in MLS NEXT Pro for Sporting Kansas City II, starting 29 of his 40 appearances and recording three goals as well as three assists. He also made one appearance for Sporting’s first team in 2023.

Prior to joining Kansas City, Flores spent two seasons in college at Viriginia Tech, where he recorded five goals and five assists in 31 starts and 33 appearances for the Hokies. During the 2021 season, the Half Moon Bay, California native was named the No. 3 freshman in the country by Top Drawer Soccer and earned ACC All-Freshman Team accolades.

Flores also has experience playing at the USL Championship level, featuring for both Oakland Roots SC and Philadelphia Union II. With Oakland, he started 10 of his 12 appearances, while adding a goal and an assist, as the team secured a playoff berth in their inaugural season in the league. Flores spent the previous two seasons with Union II, totaling eight starts, 20 appearances, one goal, and one assist.

At the international level, Flores was a member of the United States U-17 men’s national team. The midfielder helped the side capture the 2018 Sportchain Cup in Spain with a perfect 4-0-0 tournament record.

Flores starred for two clubs at the academy level, first with Shattuck St. Mary’s in Minnesota, where he was named to the Central Conference Best XI for the 2017-18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, and later with Philadelphia Union.
