Kianz Froese

PROFILE
A talented and athletic midfielder, Kianz Froese joined Whitecaps FC Residency in 2012 after a training stint with FC Edmonton, making the move from his hometown of Brunkild, Manitoba. He was named the Whitecaps FC Most Promising Player for 2015, after a productive year that included scoring his first MLS goal at New York Red Bulls on June 20, and making his senior international debut for Canada in the friendly versus Ghana on October 13.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
2016: Froese made five regular season appearances in his third MLS season. His lone start came in the season opener versus Montreal Impact.  2015: Froese was named the Whitecaps FC Most Promising Player after notching a number of milestones in his young career in 2015. He made his first MLS start at Colorado Rapids on May 23, then scored the match-winner at New York Red Bulls on June 20 for his first goal in league play. 2014: Froese made one appearance in his first MLS season, making his debut on October 10 at Seattle Sounders FC.

UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE
2016: Froese started 12 of his 13 regular season appearances, tallying a goal and an assist, and earning one bench selection to the USL Team of the Week. He started all three of the 'Caps USL Cup Playoffs matches, scoring a goal in each of their two postseason wins. 2015: Froese made six appearances for Whitecaps FC 2, scoring a goal in the 4-2 loss versus Timbers 2 on July 19.

AMWAY CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
2016: Froese started his lone ACC appearance for the year, featuring in their tournament opener versus Ottawa Fury FC in the semifinal. 2015: Froese made two appearances to help the ‘Caps win their first ever Voyageurs Cup, including a Man of the Match selection after recording an assist in the 2-2 draw in the first leg of the ACC final versus Montreal on August 12. 2014: At the age of 18, Froese made his professional debut with Whitecaps FC on May 7, 2014, starting and playing 77 minutes in the first leg of the ACC semifinal series against Toronto FC.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
2016: Froese came on as a late substitute in his only Champions league appearance for the year, a 1-0 win over Central FC in Trinidad and Tobago. 2015: Froese was named Man of the Match after his game-winning goal on September 19 versus C.D. Olimpia in CCL action, where he was one of three Whitecaps FC players to play start all four tournament matches.

UNITED SOCCER LEAGUES PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
2014: Froese started six of his seven appearances for Whitecaps FC U-23, scoring four goals on the season. The talented midfielder saved his best for last, scoring two goals and recording one assist in a 7-2 playoff win over British Columbia rivals Victoria Highlanders FC on July 16. 2012: Froese started four of his eight appearances in his first season with Whitecaps FC U-23, scoring on his debut after subbing on against Victoria Highlanders FC on June 9.

UNITED STATES SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY
2013-14: Froese started 21 of his 22 appearances and finished second on the U-18 team with 12 goals on the season. He also scored for the U-18 'Caps in their 4-0 USSDA playoff win over Georgia United on June 24, 2014. 2012-13: Froese started 18 of 23 regular season matches for Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency, registering three goals. The Brunkild, Manitoba native scored the game-winning goal against Chicago Fire in a 3-0 triumph on June 24, 2013 in the USSDA playoffs.

INTERNATIONAL
Senior: Froese earned his first call-up to the senior men's national team in September 2013 and then was called up again in January 2014. During the camp, Froese scored in an exhibition match against Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Froese has two senior international appearances for Canada - the 1-1 friendly draw with Ghana on October 13, 2015, and the 1-0 loss to the United States on February 5, 2016. He was also called up to the fourth round of World Cup Qualifiers in November 2015 but did not make an appearance. U-20: Froese represented Canada at the 2014 Dale Farm Milk Cup in Northern Ireland, helping the Red and White to a second place finish.  He also figured in Canada's 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championships campaign in Jamaica in January 2-15, where he appeared in four matches, scoring a goal against El Salvador. U-17: In October 2013, Froese was called up to the Canadian roster for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. He went on to start all three matches for Canada. U-17 (Cuba): Froese played for his birth nation at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship.

Froese was born in Havana, Cuba and moved back and forth between Cuba and Manitoba in his youth.
