Brian Sylvestre

PROFILE
A big, imposing goalkeeper that has represented the United States at U-17 and U-20 international levels, Brian Sylvestre joined Whitecaps FC's inaugural Major League Soccer roster as a Homegrown player. The native of Hollywood, Florida, is a product of Whitecaps FC Residency, having joined the full-time program back on Feb. 12, 2010.

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER RESERVE LEAGUE
2012: After appearing as a substitute in a 1-1 draw at Chivas USA reserves on Aug. 3, Sylvestre started the 2-1 home defeat to San Jose Earthquakes reserves on Sept. 10. 2011: Sylvestre made his MLS Reserve League debut on June 20, as Whitecaps FC reserves suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Los Angeles Galaxy reserves. It was Sylvestre’s only Reserve League appearance that season.

UNITED SOCCER LEAGUES PREMIER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE
2011: The goalkeeper made five appearances during his first PDL season with Whitecaps FC Residency. He made his PDL debut in the Residency team’s season opener at Empire Field, as Vancouver fell 2-0 at home to eventual PDL champions Kitsap Pumas on May 1.

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC RESIDENCY
2010-11: The goalkeeper started two of Whitecaps FC Residency's three Bracket C matches at Dallas Cup XXXII. This included the 3-2 victory over Brazil's Sport Club Corinthians Paulista on Apr. 17, 2011, and the 2-0 defeat to Mexico's Tigres de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (Tigres UANL) on Apr. 18, 2011. Sylvestre also appeared in the 2-1 friendly win over Costa Rica's Liga Deportiva Alajuelense at Dallas Cup XXXII on Apr. 21, 2011. 2009-10: Sylvestre made his Residency team debut during the team's U-19 Super Group campaign at Dallas Cup XXXI in Mar. 2010. The keeper started all three of Vancouver’s matches, which included a 3-0 defeat to Germany's Eintracht Frankfurt (Mar. 28), a 1-0 defeat to the United States national team (91/92) (Mar. 29), and a 1-0 loss to the Mexican national team (91/92) (Mar. 31). In May 2010, Sylvestre travelled with the Residency squad to Germany to compete in the Stemwede International U-19 Youth Tournament. Sylvestre started three of Vancouver’s four matches during the tournament, including a 1-1 draw versus England's Portsmouth FC Academy (May 21), a 2-2 draw with Denmark's Aalborg BK (May 22), and a penalty shootout defeat to Germany's VFL Osnabrück (May 23). He then picked up his first win as a member of the 'Caps when they defeated JFV Jung-Elstern U-19's 3-2 in a friendly on May 26.

INTERNATIONAL
U-20: The keeper earned a call-up to the United States U-20 squad for a Jan. 2011 camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Sylvestre then earned a call-up to the USA U-20 squad for a May 2011 training camp in Vichy, France. The week-long camp included a start for the goalkeeper in a 2-1 friendly defeat to France's U-20 squad on May 19, 2011. U-17: Sylvestre was a member of the United States U-17 Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida. As part of the program, the keeper took part in the 2007 Development League Fall Showcase and the 2009 Development League Winter Showcase. On Oct. 8, 2007, Sylvestre recorded a clean sheet in the USA U-17's 7-0 victory over United Soccer Leagues Second Division club Richmond Kickers at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

YOUTH/AMATEUR
During the 2008-09 season, Sylvestre was a member of the Schultz Academy U-16 squad, which at one point, was ranked second behind Major League Soccer (MLS) club FC Dallas in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy rankings. Schultz Academy went unbeaten in their first 14 matches, only allowing three goals against in the process. The following season, Weston FC replaced Schultz Academy as the second South Florida team in the Development League, with Sylvestre making the switch as well. The ‘keeper was undefeated in his first four matches with Weston FC's U-17/U-18 side, however, the team finished seventh in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy South Conference, Southeast Division. Sylvestre also played youth soccer with the Florida Youth Soccer Association.

PERSONAL
Born and raised in Hollywood, Florida, Sylvestre attended Oakridge Elementary School and Hollywood Hills High School in his hometown. His parents are Elaine and Succes Sylvestre, and he has two siblings named Ali and Jesse.

INTERESTING FACTS
In addition to soccer, Sylvestre enjoys basketball, track and field, and football. Sylvestre was also a standout defensive end with his high school football team in the Hollywood Hills Spartans. Sylvestre's football abilities earned him interest from University of Florida, Florida State University, University of South Florida, and Michigan State University.
