Andrew Jacobson

PROFILE
Midfielder Andrew Jacobson joined Whitecaps FC in March 2016 after spending seven combined years with D.C. United, Philadelphia Union, FC Dallas, and most recently, New York City FC. The 2008 MLS SuperDraft pick was also a member of the United States national futsal team, playing four matches in the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup. Jacobson spent part of 2014 on loan for Norwegian Tippeligaen side Stabæk Fotball. In January 2018, Jacobson announced his retirement following a 10-year professional career. 

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
2017: Jacobson started 19 of his 21 regular season appearances, tallying two goals and two assists. On April 29, he accounted for both goals in the 'Caps 2-1 victory at Montreal Impact, scoring the equalizer and assisting on the comeback game-winner, earning MLS Team of the Week and Goal of the Week honours. In addition, Jacobson made one substitute appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs, coming on late to help preserve the 'Caps historic 5-0 Knockout Round victory against San Jose Earthquakes. 2016: Jacobson scored two goals in his 26 regular season appearances, including 18 starts, after joining Whitecaps FC early in the year. He earned an MLS Team of the Week selection for his first start for the ‘Caps, lining up at centre back in the shutout Week 3 win over Houston Dynamo. 2015: New York City FC acquired Jacobson via trade from FC Dallas in July 2014  prior to their inaugural MLS season in 2015. He led the expansion side in starts and appearances with 33 each, as well as minutes played with 2,837. 2011-14: Jacobson spent four years with FC Dallas after being acquired via trade from Philadelphia Union in February 2011. During his time with the Western Conference side, he totalled five goals and seven assists in 98 regular season appearances. He also started one match for FC Dallas in the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs. 2010: In his lone year with Philadelphia Union, Jacobson started 13 of his 25 appearances. Also on the Union roster that year was current 'Caps teammate Jordan Harvey. 2009: Jacobson made his professional debut with D.C. United in 2010, after being originally selected in the second round (24th overall) in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the same club. He made eight starts in 17 appearances as a rookie for D.C. United.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
2016-17: Jacobson made two starts in three Champions League group stage appearances for Whitecaps FC. 2011-12: He made two starts in five tournament appearances for FC Dallas. 2009-10: Jacobson started five of his six Champions League appearances as a member of D.C. United. 

AMWAY CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
2016: Jacobson played in the full 90 minutes of both of his two ACC appearances.

LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP
2015: Jacobson made one U.S. Open Cup appearance for New York City FC, playing all 120 minutes in a 2(4)-2(3) shootout loss to NASL side New York Cosmos in the fourth round of the tournament. 2011-14: Jacobson started five of his eight tournament appearances in his four seasons with FC Dallas.

NORWAY
Prior to seeing action for New York City FC, Jacobson spent the second half of 2014 on loan in Norway. Playing for Tippeligaen side Stabæk Fotball, he started all 14 of his appearances and scored one goal.

FRANCE
After being selected by D.C. United in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, Jacobson trialled and signed with FC Lorient of France’s Ligue 1, but never featured on the first team due to a foot injury.

COLLEGE
Jacobson was a NSCAA First Team All-American, a member of the All-Far West First Team and Pac-10 Player of the Year as a senior at University of California. He tallied 11 goals and 13 assists in 83 appearances during his four seasons for the Bears.

INTERNATIONAL
Jacobson was a member of the United States national futsal team and played in four matches in the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Jacobson was a legal studies major at California and previously wanted to become a lawyer after college.
