Whitecaps FC recently partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to help find a cure for cancer. April is daffodil month across Canada, where people make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in exchange for a daffodil pin to show their support for people with cancer and to show they’re not alone in their fight.
Friday, April 27, is Daffodil Day. Today, volunteers were on local street corners with donation boxes to collect funds to support the fight against cancer. This morning Carl Valentine, Spike, and Whitecaps FC staff members were at Burrard station supporting the cause.

The partnership between the Canadian Cancer Society and Whitecaps FC goes much deeper than just one day of volunteering. During our past two matches on April 18 against Sporting Kansas City and April 21 against FC Dallas, the Canadian Cancer Society also had booths set up at ‘Caps Kickoff and on the concourse of BC Place.
Whitecaps FC goalkeeper Brad Knighton has also been keen to support this very worthwhile cause. Knighton’s mother-in-law who was affected by breast and thyroid cancer last year made a full recovery last October. “We were extremely lucky that the cancer was detected early and my mother-in-law was able to beat the disease,” said Knighton “After going through that battle I wanted to help out anyway I could.”
