Whitecaps FC select...

SuperDraft Speculation 2015

VANCOUVER, BC – Who will Vancouver Whitecaps FC select in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft?

We won’t find out until Thursday morning (the draft will be streamed live on whitecapsfc.com at 9:30 a.m. PT), but sometimes it’s fun to guess. Who doesn’t love a good mock draft?

On that note, we’ve checked out a few different ones to see who the pundits think the ‘Caps might target with their first pick (13th overall) on Thursday.

Here’s what people are saying:

- Jonathan Yardley (MLSSoccer.com Mock Draft Pre-Combine): Aaron Simmons (D/M)
“Vancouver will be looking for depth, and Simmons provides cover in multiple spots along the back line and midfield, particularly at centre back.”

- Matthew Doyle (MLSSoccer.com Mock Draft Pre-Combine): Dan Metzger (M)
“Metzger was once New York Red Bulls Homegrown property, but he separated himself from the club over the last two years to be draft eligible. He gives Vancouver a pure No. 6 who can back up Matias Laba.”

- Nate Sulat (MLSSoccer.com Mock Draft Pre-Combine): Romario Williams (F)
“There’s very little chance the GA product is going to be available to the ‘Caps at No. 13, but if he is then they’ll snap him up like the last pierogi at a Wigilia dinner. Substitute your own simile that’s more culturally relevant to Vancouver.”

- Soccer By Ives (Versions 1 and 2): Conor Donovan (D)
“The ‘Caps don’t really have pressing needs it can address at this spot, so grabbing a young talent like Donovan, who would provide some salary cap relief as a Generation adidas player, makes some sense.”

- Top Drawer Soccer (Mock Draft v 2.0): Fatai Alashe (M)
“Alashe's selection here would represent a best player available approach. Plus, we all know Vancouver loves to stockpile defensive-minded midfielders.”

- Top Drawer Soccer (Mock Draft v 1.0): Andy Craven (F)
“Finishing proved troublesome for Whitecaps FC during the 2014 season, and in Craven they land a hard-working forward who can do some of the dirty work and hopefully score once in awhile.”

- College Soccer News: Axel Sjoberg (D)
“The ‘Caps need defensive depth and with Sjoberg, they grab a 6’7” centre back, who has better mobility than some may think.  Sjoberg has decent feet and is essentially a magnet in the air. He would be a smart draft move for the Vancouver.”
