On Monday, April 18th, Whitecaps FC participated in the first MLS league-wide week of service by hosting a Shoreline Cleanup in the lead up to Earth Day.
'Caps staff, players and alumni scoured the parks and shores of False Creek North-Central, picking up nearly 40 lbs. of trash and waste. Whitecaps FC forward Erik Hurtado and club ambassador Carl Valentine were there to lend a hand.
“Earth Day is a great time for us to reflect on the things we can do to create a healthy environment for wildlife and the local community,” says Carl Valentine. “Being part of the Shoreline Cleanup reminded me that it’s human activity that is the cause, but it’s something we can easily change by promoting better waste and recycling practices.”
The most collected litter items included cigarette/cigarette filters, food wrappers, containers, plastic/paper bags and smaller debris.
The Whitecaps FC Shoreline Cleanup is part this year’s Greener Goals activation by MLS Works. For more information on Greener Goals, visit http://www.mlssoccer.com/mls-works/greener-goals
