BURNABY, BC – Whitecaps FC 2 fell to a 2-1 loss against Colorado Rapids 2 at Swangard Stadium this Thursday night.
The first half saw the ‘Caps scoring the first goal, as Ali Ahmed’s long cross connected to Simon Becher inside the final third. The forward’s run was followed by a tidy finish, giving his squad a 1-0 lead within the 20th minute of the match.
The second half saw Rapids 2 having a close attempt early on, as Omar Gomez’s shot from close range struck off the post in the 59th minute of the match.
As the match progressed, Colorado were given an indirect free kick within the penalty area in the 62nd minute of the match. With Yosuke Hanya making a short pass on the ensuing set piece, Philip Mayaka’s quick shot inside the box would tie the game.
Colorado would find the go-ahead goal after a quick counter attack was organized by defender Blake Malone in the late stages of the match. Forward Maclovio Swett’s powerful strike from outside the box flew into the top corner of the net, giving his team a 2-1 advantage in the 85th minute.
With the young ‘Caps pushing on for the equalizer in stoppage time, Elage Bah’s shot would go right over the top of the net. Rapids 2 would claim the victory as the final whistle blew at Swangard Stadium.
