VANCOUVER, BC – Victor Blasco has been chomping at the bit to showcase his skills, and on Saturday, he broke out in a big way.

Victor Blasco scores twice in just over a minute to secure a late win

The Spanish midfielder was named USL Player of the Week after his late-match heroics helped to lift Whitecaps FC 2 to a thrilling 3-1 victoryover the weekend.


After coming in as a 77th-minute substitute in a deadlocked tilt with Seattle Sounders FC 2, the 21-year old winger registered a brace in a span of 90 seconds in the dying moments.



The former FC Barcelona Academy player is the first WFC2 player to win the weekly league honour. 


Also, defender Christian Dean was named to the bench of the USL Team of the Week after scoring his first professional goal in the 41st minute versus S2.


Previous Whitecaps FC 2 players to be named to the USL Team of the week are Marco Bustos (Week 14), Brett Levis (Week 11), Ben McKendry (Week 10), and Craig Nitti (Week 3).


Blasco and his Whitecaps FC 2 teammates will look to make it three straight Cascadia derby wins when they host Timbers 2 on Friday night at Thunderbird Stadium.

D – Emmanual Adjetey, Charleston Battery: Was solid defensively and made good attacking runs down the left in the Battery’s draw with Rochester
D – Parker Maher, Saint Louis FC: Scored his first goal and made a big goal-line clearance as STL FC took victory in Charlotte
D – Tarek Morad, Louisville City FC:Scored his second goal of the season and was solid defensively as Louisville defeated Richmond
M – Victor Blasco, Whitecaps FC 2:Notched two goals in two minutes to lift WFC2 to a late victory against Seattle
M – Fatawu Safiu, Portland Timbers 2: Sparked T2’s attack and scored a fine goal to lead his side to victory against Arizona
M – Rob Vincent, Pittsburgh Riverhounds: Continued his outstanding season with another pair of goals as the Riverhounds defeated the Red Bulls II
M – Sam Garza, Seattle Sounders FC 2:Had the opening goal and was a threat throughout as S2 took victory against Portland
F – Matt Fondy, Louisville City FC: Scored a goal and added an assist to lead City to a 3-0 victory against Richmond
F – Miguel Gonzalez, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC:Scored both goals as the Switchbacks extended their winning streak to six games by defeating Austin
F – Cardel Benbow, Harrisburg City Islanders:Worked hard all game and was rewarded with a late winner in a 1-0 victory against Wilmington
