VANCOUVER, BC – Cup football is here.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC start the knockout stage of the Leagues Cup with a Round of 32 match against Mexican giants Pumas UNAM this Wednesday, August 7 at BC Place. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. PT.
For information on ticket options, visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
Below are details on what fans can expect.
Neutral venue
In Leagues Cup, host venues like BC Place are neutral venues and a home for both clubs. The in-stadium fan experience will be different and unique, and some of the usual pre-match ceremonies that happen during a home ‘Caps match will be replaced with ceremonial Leagues Cup rituals.
Format
- The winner will advance to the Leagues Cup Round of 16, while the other team will be eliminated
- If the match is tied after 90 minutes, it will go straight to a shootout
- The winner will face either Seattle Sounders FC or Los Angeles Galaxy in the Round of 16 on either Monday, August 12 or Tuesday, August 13. The ‘Caps would be away to Seattle, or home to LA Galaxy (the home team is determined by the higher team in the Leagues Cup rankings – for MLS teams that is based on the final 2023 MLS standings)
