VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Friday that centre back Roberto DomÃnguez has been called up to the El Salvador men’s national team for upcoming matches matches against Bermuda and Haiti.
El Salvador will face Bermuda on Friday, November 16 in a Concacaf Nations League Qualifying match at the National Sports Centre in Hamilton, Bermuda. Dominguez will then remain with the national team for a friendly versus Haiti on Tuesday, November 20 at Estadio Cuscatlán, the national team's home ground in San Salvador.
At stake in the 2018-19 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying is a spot in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, as well as the classification groups in Concacaf Nations League. From 68 qualifying matches, the top 10 nations will qualify for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, while the top six nations will additionally qualify for Concacaf Nations League "A".
The 21-year-old defender has made 18 appearances for El Salvador since his debut in 2015. He was part of El Salvador’s 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup squad where they reached the quarterfinals before bowing out to United States. DomÃnguez most recently featured for his native country in a 3-0 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying win over Barbados in October.
