The Concacaf W Champions Cup is back on Wednesday as Vancouver Whitecaps FC face another great challenge when they play on the road in Panama against Santa Fe FC at Estadio Universitario.
Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. PT, live on Concacaf YouTube and Concacaf Go.
How they got here?
The 'Caps League1 BC women's side qualified for the Group Stage after a monumental 1-0 win over eight-time El Savadorian champions Alianza Women FC in the Preliminary Round, courtesy of a penalty kick goal from 17-year-old Coquitlam, BC native Emily Wong - the first goal in Concacaf W Champions Cup history! Of the 22 players on the roster, 16 were teenagers.
Katie Collar's young side then faced a stiff challenge against one of the very best professional clubs in the region, falling to Club América Femenil.
Now they face another talented team, testing themselves once again.
Who are Santa Fe FC?
Santa Fe FC are champions of the professional women's league in Panama.
They won the Central American championship - the Copa Interclubes Femenina UNCAF 2024 - over Alianza FC with a 4-0 win in July, so the 'Caps know they are up against another talented team.
Santa Fe opened the Concacaf W Champions Cup with a heart fought 2-0 defeat against NWSL side San Diego Wave FC in Panama on August 20.
What's next?
The 'Caps will wrap-up play in Group B with two exciting home matches in October against NWSL competition at BC Place. For tickets, visit ticketmaster.ca/whitecaps.
