WEEKLY STORYLINES
MLS RETURNS TO BC PLACE: Following their Concacaf Champions Cup Round One victory, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to quickly shift their focus towards their 2025 MLS home opener against defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy on Sunday. The 'Caps have posted a record of 6W-3L-3D in their last 12 home matches against LA, scoring 22 goals and keeping five clean sheets in the process. The Galaxy are coming off a 2-0 opening day home defeat to expansion side San Diego FC.
JAYDEN NELSON IS HERE: The 'Caps started their 2025 MLS regular season with a bang, claiming a rampant 4-1 away victory over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers in Jesper Sørensen's MLS head coaching debut. The star of the day was new signing Jayden Nelson, who scored the fourth goal of the match and supplied three assists. The Canadian international became only the second player in the club's history to record a goal as well as three assists in a match, joining Alphonso Davies (June 9, 2018), and is the fourth 'Caps player to record four goal contributions in a match. Nelson also added another assist last Thursday in Concacaf Champions Cup action.
CONTINENTAL 'CAPS: The Blue and White's busy start to the year just got busier. After defeating Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa with a 3-2 aggregate win, Vancouver have moved on to the Round of 16, where they'll face one of Concacaf's powerhouse outifts in LIGA MX side CF Monterrey. The 'Caps will host the first leg at BC Place on Wednesday, March 5 and will travel to Mexico the following week for the second leg on Wednesday, March 12. The winner of the tie will move on to face either LIGA MX side Pumas UNAM or Costa Rican side Liga Deportiva Alajuelense in the quarterfinals.
