WEEKLY STORYLINES

HUNTING FOR THE THREEPEAT: Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be seeking to make it a threepeat this Wednesday as they host rivals Toronto FC in the 2024 TELUS Canadian Championship Final at BC Place. The 'Caps will be looking to lift the Voyageurs Cup for a third consecutive year – a feat that has not been accomplished since the tournament expanded in 2019. Wednesday's Final will mark the second meeting of the season against Toronto, with the Blue and White claiming a resounding 4-0 victory in MLS action back in April. There will be several specials for fans in attendance on Wednesday, with the first 10,000 fans set to receive a limited edition Canada’s Best, Made in Vancouver t-shirt, 50% off all drinks until kickoff, and much more.

RACE TO THE PLAYOFFS: The Blue and White will quickly turn their focus back to MLS regular season action after Wednesday's final, as they begin a run of four consecutive home matches in MLS play. First up is a Cascadia rivalry match against Portland Timbers on Saturday, September 28 followed by another Cascadia clash on Wednesday, October 2. The 'Caps then host their 21st Century Match against Minnesota United FC on Saturday, October 5 and play their final regular season home match against LAFC on Sunday, October 13. Vancouver currently sits seventh in the Western Conference with 46 points, only five points behind second-placed Real Salt Lake.

GAULDFATHER'S WORLD: Ryan Gauld is on an absolute tear right now. The Scotsman, who made his debut for Scotland's men's national team earlier this month, has tallied four assists in the last three matches to set a club-record for most assists in an MLS regular season. So far this season, Gauld has recorded 11 goals and 15 assists across all competitions, which is three goal contributions away from his total from 2023. Gauld has recorded 18 goal contributions (six goals, 12 assists) in his last 17 appearances across all competitions. He's also one assist away from becoming the first player in the club's MLS era to reach 50 assists, leads MLS in big chances created with 21, sits fourth in chances created with 81, and third in expected assists per 90 with 0.36.
