CASCADIA RIVALRY: Vancouver Whitecaps FC return to MLS action this Saturday as they look to extend their four-match unbeaten run in league play against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers at BC Place. The match will mark the first Cascadia clash of the season for the 'Caps, as they'll be looking to claim their seventh Cascadia Cup in their history.
VAISAKHI NIGHT: On Saturday, the 'Caps will be celebrating the South Asian community with the second annual Vaisakhi Night at BC Place. Numerous festivites are planned for the day, including a colourful March to the Match with the Sikh Motorcycle Club, a spectacular pre-match bhangra dancing performance by Shan-E-Punjab Arts Club, award-winning Bollywood singer Jugpreet Bajwa performing the national anthems, and DJ Heer performing pre-match at Terry Fox Plaza. Limited edition Vaisakhi shirts and scarves will also be available for sale at sections 205, 222, 233, 249, with partial proceeds donated to Guru Nanak’s Free Kitchen.
YOUNG BALLERS BALLING: Whitecaps FC midfielder Ali Ahmed and forward Simon Becher were named to the MLS Team of the Matchday on Monday for their performances in Matchday 6 against CF Montréal. The pair became the first players from the club's MLS NEXT Pro side Whitecaps FC 2 to sign with the first team this past offseason. On Saturday, Ahmed recorded his first MLS goal and first MLS assist. Becher tallied two goals and an assist, becoming the fastest player in league history to score his first four MLS goals, doing so in just 87 minutes of action. The native of Brooklyn, Connecticut was also named the MLS Player of the Matchday, becoming the first MLS NEXT Pro alumnus to win the award.
