VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Julian Gressel was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday on Monday for his performance against Portland Timbers in Matchday 7.
Gressel recorded his team-leading fifth assist across all competitions on Brian White's game-winning goal and his fourth MLS assist of the season, putting him in a tie for the second-most assists in the league. He is also now tied for the league-lead in big chances created with eight.
Along with his assist, the U.S. international recorded two dribbles, three shots on goal, three chances created, three tackles, four duels won, and 21 passes in the final third on his 200th MLS appearance.
Gressel becomes the fourth 'Caps player to be named to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, joining Ali Ahmed (Matchday 6), Simon Becher (Matchday 5, Matchday 6), and Tristan Blackmon (Matchday 4).
Next up for the 'Caps is the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals against Los Angeles FC this Tuesday, April 11 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. PT live on OneSoccer, Channel 980 on TELUS, and AM730 radio, with the radio pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. PT.
