VANCOUVER, BC – It's playoff time. Following the conclusion of the MLS regular season, Vancouver Whitecaps FC (13W-13L-8D) are set to begin their third MLS Cup Playoffs campaign in the last four seasons this Wednesday, October 23 against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers (12W-11L-11D) in the Western Conference Wild Card Match. Kickoff from Providence Park in Portland, Oregon is set for 7:30 p.m. PT. Whitecaps FC's 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs campaign is presented by BMO, PlayNow Sports and TELUS.

The rivalry between the 'Caps and the Timbers stretches back to 1975 (Portland’s expansion year in NASL) and a year after Vancouver entered the league. Wednesday's match will be the 108th meeting between the two sides in official competition and the third in MLS Cup Playoffs action.

WEEKLY STORYLINES

IT'S PLAYOFF TIME: For the third time in the last four seasons, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are MLS Cup Playoffs bound. The 'Caps are set to begin their playoff campaign in the Western Conference Wild Card Match against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers this Wednesday at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon. The two teams split their season series with a record of 1W-1L-1D, with the most recent meeting coming at the end of September as the sides drew 1-1 at BC Place. In addition, Wednesday's clash will mark the third time the 'Caps face the Timbers in the MLS postseason, having last met in the two-legged 2015 Western Conference semifinals. The winner will take on LAFC in the Best-Of-3 Round One series, with the first match scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, October 27.

From leading the club in assists with 49 and goal contributions with 87 across all competitions during the MLS era, the Scotsman has been one of the league's most influential playmakers. Last Saturday night, Gauld once again made history as the 'Caps captain is now the first player in the club's MLS era to produce back-to-back seasons with 10+ goals and 10+ assists. Gauld also sits 10th in MLS era appearances for the 'Caps with 131 and is now six away from sitting second in goals scored across all competitions in the MLS era.
