Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that $55,190 was raised for community partner BC Children’s Hospital (BCCHF) through this year’s second annual Legends & Stars charity match – an increase of more than $20,000 from the inaugural event in 2017.
Among the participants of this year’s match included Vancouver Canucks legends Daniel and Henrik Sedin, three-time Olympic medalist and figure skating world champion Patrick Chan, cast from popular TV shows Riverdale, Once Upon A Time, The 100, and iZombie, and alumni from the club’s 40+ year history, including the first-ever Whitecaps FC captain in MLS Jay DeMerit.
MLS commissioner Don Garber was also in attendance and donated $10,000 to BCCHF on behalf of Major League Soccer.
BCCHF is a longstanding partner of Whitecaps FC. All proceeds from the club’s 50-50 program are donated to the hospital, the team makes regular visits to brighten the days of the patients and their families, and earlier this year a ‘Caps-themed playroom was opened at the new Teck Acute Care Centre – part of Whitecaps FC’s $1 million commitment to BCCHF.
