VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Wednesday, May 25 forward Lucas Cavallini has been called up to the Canada's men's national team for an international friendly against Iran, as well as a pair of Concacaf Nations League matches against Curaçao and Honduras.
Cavallini will join up with the national team following the 'Caps away match Sporting Kansas City on May 28 and return to Vancouver ahead of the club's trip to Texas to face FC Dallas on June 18.
“These are three opportunities to take steps forward with this group of players in preparation for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar,” said John Herdman, Canada Soccer’s Men’s National Team Head Coach. “Every minute together is crucial as we prepare to work collectively to give us the best chance to perform against some of the world’s best on the biggest stage.”
Canada will open up the international window by hosting Iran in an international friendly at BC Place in Vancouver, BC on Sunday, June 5. Kick off is set for 4 p.m. PT.
The second match of the window will also be hosted by Canada at BC Place, as Curaçao come to town for a Concacaf Nations League clash on Thursday, June 9, with kick off set for 7:30 p.m. PT.
Finally, Canada will wrap up the window against Honduras in Concacaf Nations League action on Monday, June 13 at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. PT.
Cavallini, 29, has scored 16 goals in 31 appearances for the national team, with five of those goals coming in World Cup Qualifying.
This season, El Tanque has tallied three goals as well as two assists in eight starts and 11 appearances across all competitions for the 'Caps.
