VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC wing back Javain Brown has been called up to Jamaica's men's national team for an upcoming international friendly against Argentina on September 27.
The match will be played at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. PT.
Brown, 23, will join up with Jamaica following the 'Caps home match against Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC on September 17.
A Kingston native, the 2021 MLS SuperDraft selection was last called up to Jamaica in June for Concacaf Nations League matches against Suriname and Mexico as well as an international friendly against Uruguay. In total, Brown has represented his country at the senior international level 17 times since making his debut for Jamaica against Trinidad & Tobago in 2017. After joining the national team program at the U-17 level, he made five appearances for the U-20 national team and four appearances at the U-23 level, including three matches at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru.
So far this season, Brown has made 23 starts and 29 appearances across all competitions in 2022, showing his versatility by being deployed as a wing back or a centre back on either side of the pitch. The defender also scored his first MLS goal in the club's 1-1 road draw against Nashville SC on July 30.
The defender out of the University of South Florida recorded five assists in 20 starts and 27 appearances across all competitions during his first season with Whitecaps FC and was rewarded with a new contract through the 2024 MLS season, with a club option for 2025, back in January.
All-time, Brown has tallied one goal as well as six assists in 43 starts and 56 appearances for the 'Caps across two seasons.
