History! Canada defeats U.S., will play for Gold

CANvUS

Canada made history on Monday, defeating the United States 1-0 in the Olympic semifinals. The Red & White will play for Gold for the first time, taking on Sweden on Thursday, August 5 at 7 p.m. PT, live on CBC. They are only the third nation to medal at three consecutive Olympics in women's soccer, joining the United States (1996 to 2012) and Germany (2000 to 2008).

Julia Grosso (Vancouver, BC) and Jordyn Huitema (Chilliwack, BC) - graduates from the Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX program in partnership with BC Soccer - both came off the bench to help see Canada to victory.

In a tense 0-0 match, Jessie Fleming provided the winning moment on a penalty kick after Deanne Rose was taken down in the box.
