VANCOUVER, BC – Major League Soccer announced on Monday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Tristan Blackmon, midfielder Sebastian Berhalter, and head coach Jesper Sørensen have all been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following a 1-0 road win at FC Dallas to keep the 'Caps as the only perfect side remaining this season.
Blackmon scored the winning goal for the 'Caps, heading in a cross from J.C. Ngando in the 54th minute and becoming the 10th different goalscorer for the team in all competitions so far this season. At the other end of the pitch, the American has helped the 'Caps to a 231-minute streak without conceding a goal in MLS play.
Berhalter has become the 'Caps ironman, the only player to start every match so far in all competitions. In another 90-minute effort, Berhalter won 11 duels and had two key passes.
In his first season, Sørensen has led the 'Caps to another superb week in the midst of playing a grueling eight matches in just 24 days. After a historic upset of CF Monterrey in Mexico on Wednesday, the Dane pulled all the right strings in another excellent performance from his team to become only the seventh MLS side all-time to start a season with 12 points (4W-0L-0D).
The trio now brings the 'Caps total to seven different selections to the MLS Team of the Matchday this season, joining midfielder Pedro Vite (Matchday 1), forwards Jayden Nelson (Matchday 1) and Brian White (Matchday 2), and defender Mathías Laborda (Matchday 3).
The Blue and White are back home this Saturday, March 22 when they welcome Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire FC to BC Place in their first visit since 2022. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT and tickets are available at whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
In the Concacaf Champions Cup, the 'Caps will take on Mexican side Pumas UNAM on Wednesday, April 2 in the first leg at BC Place. Kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m. PT.
