VANCOUVER, BC – Kadin Chung is the 2015 Canadian U-17 Player of the Year.
The 17-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency and WFC2 fullback earned the honour after a year in which he made his professional debut with WFC2 (see clip below) and impressed at the Residency and international levels.
"Kadin is a perfect example of a player who has dedicated and committed to his development in our Residency program," said Whitecaps FC Residency technical director Craig Dalyrmple. "He has represented Whitecaps FC at all levels, including most recently at the USL level. His character is flawless, and combined with his ever improving technical and tactical competencies, he has also been able to positively affect games at the international level."
"It is a well deserved honour for Kadin," added Dalrymple, "and there is more to come."
Chung, who signed with WFC2 in August, is currently in the midst of his first season with the Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency team. Prior to that, the Port Coquitlam, B.C native started 58 of his 67 USSDA appearances for the U-16s, contributing two goals.
Internationally, Chung has been called up to Canada at the U-20, U-17 and U-15 levels. Earlier this year, he played every minute of Canada's six matches at the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship in Honduras and scored his first international goal in a 3-1 win over Haiti. He also had a sliding goalline clearance in that same game (see clips below).
And prior to the tournament, Chung was named Man of the Match in a friendly against Guatemala.
"He had a tremendous cycle and was very consistent in all our national-team projects," said Canadian U-17 head coach Sean Fleming. "He had an excellent performance at the CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship and we look forward to watching him in the future with Canada at the highest level."
