Canada's men's national team took a huge step in qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday with an important 3-0 win over El Salvador at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario.
In a great sign for 'Caps fans, striker Lucas Cavallini also saw his first action after returning from injury, subbing on in the 79th minute to play the final 11 minutes.
Captain Atiba Hutchinson opened the scoring just six minutes in. It was then quickly 2-0 on a goal from Jonathan David on 11 minutes. Finally, Tajon Buchanan finished the scoring with a goal in the 59th minute.
Cavallini and goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau will now return to the 'Caps as they get set for a huge match against Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers this Friday, September 10. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. PT, with tickets still available at ticketmaster.ca/whitecaps.
