Canada's men's national team captured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory against Japan on Thursday at the Al-Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates in the team's final international friendly ahead of their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ opener.
Canada fell behind early, as Japan opened the scoring in the ninth minute through forward Yuki Soma.
However, it wouldn't take long for the Canadians to respond back, with defender Steven Vitória putting home a loose ball in the box after a corner kick from midfielder Junior Hoilett to tie the match at 1-1.
Canada would continue pushing for the go-ahead goal and found it in stoppage time at the end of the match through former Whitecaps FC striker Lucas Cavallini, who chipped in his penalty kick attempt to give Les Rouges the victory.
Next up for Canada is their opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ against Belgium on Wednesday, November 23 at Al Rayyan Stadium in Ar-Rayyan, Qatar, with kickoff set for 11 a.m. PT. You can catch the match live across on TSN.
