Canada will play for a medal at a third straight Olympics after a penalty kick shootout win over Brazil in the quarterfinals on Friday. The victory sets up a semifinal match with their rivals the United States on Monday (1 a.m. PT), harkening back to the epic clash at the 2012 Olympics.
Regulation and extra time solved nothing as the two teams remained locked at 0-0. Whitecaps FC Girls Elite REX grads Julia Grosso, Jayde Riviere, and Jordyn Huitema all subbed into the match for Canada.
In penalty kicks, after Christine Sinclair had the first one saved, Brazil converted three in a row to go on the brink. But Stephanie Labbe them came up with consecutive saves to turn around a huge win.
