VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC fullback Javain Brown has been called up to the Jamaican MNT roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this September, the club confirmed on Monday.
The 2021 MLS SuperDraft selection will be joining his national team for the third round of Concacaf matches, with the Reggae Boyz facing Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica on September 2, 5, and 8, respectively. As a result, Brown will not be available to the ‘Caps home match against Austin FC on September 4.
Brown, a Kingston native, has represented his country at the senior international level four times since making his debut for Jamaica against Trinidad & Tobago in 2017. After joining the national team program at the U-17 level, he made five appearances for the U-20 national team and four appearances at the U-23 level, including three matches at the 2019 Pan American Games in Peru.
In just 12 starts and 14 appearances in his MLS season, the rookie out of South Florida already has four assists to his name – one shy of tying the ‘Caps rookie record set by Jake Nerwinski, and two away from matching Young-Pyo Lee’s single-season record for any ‘Caps defender.
