Community Captains

This season, Whitecaps FC are teaming up with BCIT to present the Community Captains scholarship program. Community Captains recognizes teens in Vancouver who have made exemplary contributions in their communities.


The Community Captains scholarship program will recognize five student leaders this year between grades 10 to 12. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 RESP to be used for post-secondary education, as well as a Whitecaps FC match-day experience where they will be recognized for their achievement.


"Whitecaps FC are proud to partner with BCIT to support teens who are engaged with and give back to their communities," says Whitecaps FC President Bob Lenarduzzi. "We are looking for applicants whose personal endeavours mirror the qualities of the club by being a champion on and off the pitch."


"Great soccer players are recognized for their commitment to teamwork and their pursuit of excellence - BCIT students are no different," says BCIT President Kathy Kinloch. "Through our partnership with Whitecaps FC, BCIT is proud to support outstanding students in their pursuit of education and personal growth."


Applicants are asked to have shown a combination of the following:


  • Making a positive change within their school and/or community;
  • Personal development and growth;
  • Strong academic performance (a cumulative high school GPA of 70% or higher);
  • Involvement in soccer, embodying the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship within the last five years (as players, coaches, volunteers, or supporters)


Applications close: Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. PT


Applications will be reviewed and selected by the Selection Committee comprised of Whitecaps FC and BCIT staff.
