This year, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be offering a pair of new features to the 2015 Whitecaps FC Showcase presented by Sport Chek. Led by Ryan Clark, Whitecaps FC manager of collegiate transition, parents and players will have the opportunity to take part in a collegiate education workshop and Whitecaps FC pro prep session as part of the weekend’s activities.
Clark, who was added to the Whitecaps FC and Showcase staff this year as support for the transition of players to collegiate or professional opportunities, will use the sessions to educate parents, players, and coaches on both the collegiate and professional path.
The collegiate workshop will cover both the Canadian and United States collegiate soccer systems and the essential academic and athletic information players and their families will need to know. These workshops are ideal for student-athletes from grade nine to 11 wanting detailed knowledge of the recruiting process and how to best present themselves to prospective coaches.
The Whitecaps FC pro prep session will include an overview of the Whitecaps FC player development system, including boys Residency, the Girls Elite Regional EXCEL Centre (REX) program in Partnership with BC Soccer, and the opportunities and selection process, as well as USL PRO and MLS information. The session will include a coaches roundtable with key Whitecaps FC staff discussing what they are looking for in players as well as a Q&A period.
Whitecaps FC Showcase workshops and prep sessions will be provided at no cost to participating Showcase team members. More details and information will be provided closer to the event and all registered teams will be notified in advance.
