One player at Vancouver Whitecaps FC calls Saskatchewan home, and he will be back for the 2016 USL season. That would be attacking midfielder Brett Levis, a 22-year-old who previously excelled with the club's PDL team and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies before joining WFC2.
Those who have taken in a WFC2 match at UBC Thunderbird Stadium know what Levis is all about on the pitch. WFC2 head coach Alan Koch described him as "silky, silky smooth."
"Brett is naturally gifted with the ball at his feet," Koch said. "I'd hate to have to defend against him because you don't know which way he's going to go ... he's getting better and better every week and to be honest the sky is the absolute limit for him."
So there's your scouting report, but check out our interview below to find out more about what makes Levis tick off the pitch.
1. If you weren’t a soccer player, what would you be?
That’s a good one. I’d probably have to say a salesman of some sort, probably housing. I feel like I’m a good negotiator so that’s probably something I’d get into.
2. Who would play you in the film of your life?
I really like Mark Wahlberg. He’s one of my favourites so I’d have to say him.
3. What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I’m actually not that big on iPods. I probably only have 20 songs on my phone but if I had to pick I’d probably say "Bleeding Love" by Leona Lewis.
4. Do you have any superstitions?
Not any per se, but I always keep this band on my wrist and I always pray during O Canada. I don’t know if that’s a superstition or not. The band is for my mom. It says “in memory.” She passed away from cancer and I’ve worn it ever since. A couple have broke but I’ve replaced them, and it’s also my tattoo. So I pray to her and just wish the team well. That sort of thing.
- When are you happiest?
When I’m on the field. Definitely.
6. What’s your greatest fear?
I know it’s probably a bit cliché but failure to achieve what I want to. I want to play at the highest possible level that I can play at, whether that is USL, MLS, whatever it may be.
7. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Oh, definitely ice cream.
8. What’s your worst habit?
I bite my nails.
9. If you were stuck on a deserted island, which one of your teammates would you bring?
He’s not a teammate but I would definitely bring [equipment manager Marty McDermott]. He just knows what he’s doing. He knows the ins and outs and he seems organized so I’d definitely bring him.
10. What’s the last thing you read?
I’m actually currently reading the Zlatan Ibrahimovic biography. He’s a very outgoing, very funny guy. So it’s been great so far.
