VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that the club has signed Whitecaps FC BMO Academy product Deylen Vellios to a contract with Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) in MLS NEXT Pro.
Vellios, 23, spent the past five years playing collegiately at Ohio State University, captaining the Buckeyes to the number one national ranking, Big 10 regular season and tournament titles, and a trip to the NCAA College Cup Final Four in his senior season. Individually, Vellios was named to the All-Big Ten First Team and the All-North Region Second Team. In total, Vellios started 66 of his 73 games at Ohio State, scoring two goals and recording nine assists.
Prior to starting his collegiate career, Vellios came through the Whitecaps FC BMO Academy from 2016 to 2020. During that time, he was called up to Canada's U-17 men's national team, playing at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.
In his youth, the native of Burnaby, BC also spent time at Mountain United FC and Burnaby Selects.
