VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 has been named MLS NEXT Pro's Team of the Matchday for Matchweek 15 following a 3-2 comeback, road victory against Ventura County FC on Sunday. The win marked the first time WFC2 have recorded five consecutive wins in MLS NEXT Pro and their longest winning/unbeaten run since joining the league in 2022.
Despite falling behind early, WFC2 would tie the match at 1-1 in the 35th minute through Jay Herdman's fourth goal of the season. Ventura would regain the lead shortly after, but the young 'Caps quickly responded thanks to Eliot Goldthorp's thumping volley just before the halftime interval.
WFC2 completed the comeback in the 67th minute as Goldthorp whipped in a corner that found Dembo Saidykhan, who headed in his first professional goal and the eventual gamewinner to give the 'Caps all three points.
WFC2 has now scored three or more goals in five of their last seven matches and their 29 goals scored this season are tied for the most in MLS NEXT Pro so far. Following the win, the young 'Caps sit fourth in the Western Confefence with 25 points, one point away from third-placed Ventura and five points away from second-placed North Texas SC.
Next up, WFC2 will look to make it six consecutive wins in a top of the conference clash against first-placed St. Louis CITY 2 next Sunday, June 30 at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC. Tickets are available at www.whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
