LAWRENCE, KS – Whitecaps FC 2 fell 7-1 to fellow Western Conference side Sporting Kansas City II on Sunday at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas.
The first half saw Kansas City get on the board through first team players Cam Duke, Stephen Afrifa, Felipe Hernández, and Danny Flores, with the latter slotting home a penalty kick past WFC2 goalkeeper Max Anchor.
In the second half, Alenis Vargas, Pau Vidal, and Andrew Draper found the back of the net for the home side.
WFC2 would grab a consolation in stoppage time at the end of the match, as Giovanni Aguilar played the ball forward to Levonte Johnson, who sent his right-footed strike into the bottom corner past SKC goalkeeper John Pulskamp to score his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Both Aguilar and Johnson were coming off appearances for the first team in the club's away match against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.
Next up, the young 'Caps will now return home as they look forward for a pair of home matches at BC Place. First on the cards is a top of the table clash against Western Conference leaders Colorado Rapids 2 on Saturday, July 8, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. PT.
