WEEKLY STORYLINES

HUNTING FOR HISTORY: Matchweek 16 will see two of the most in-form teams in MLS NEXT Pro go head-to-head, as Whitecaps FC 2 host Western Conference leaders St. Louis CITY SC on Sunday at Swangard Stadium. The young 'Caps are currently riding a five-game winning streak, marking the first time they've won five straight in their MLS NEXT Pro era. During that span, the team has scored 15 goals and kept two clean sheets. WFC2 will be looking to continue hunting for history in the hopes of claiming a vital win against CITY 2 and extending their winning run to six matches.

GOLDTHORP ON A ROLL: There's been plenty of key contributors for WFC2 this season, including 22-year-old wingback Eliot Goldthorp. The 22-year-old wingback, who was selected 45th overall by Whitecaps FC in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft, has recorded seven goal contributions in the last four matches (three goals, four assists). With his two assists against Ventura County last weekend, Goldthorp set a record for the most assists by a WFC2 player in an MLS NEXT Pro season with six. His six assists on the year are also the third-most in the league this season.

SCORING FOR FUN: Not only have the young 'Caps been putting up points in the standings lately, but they've also been firing on all cylinders in front of goal. The squad has scored three or more goals in five of their last seven matches, scoring four goals in three of those outings. WFC2 also sits tied for the most goals in the Western Conference with 29 and hold the second-best goal differential in the conference with +9. In addition, the team recently reached 100 MLS NEXT Pro goals earlier this month against MNUFC2 thanks to a Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau strike.
