BURNABY, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 dropped a 4-0 result to visiting Sporting Kansas City II on Saturday afternoon at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, BC.

In the fourth minute, Sporting KC II attackers took advantage of their man-to-man marking. Former 'Caps academy product Kamron Habibullah picked up the ball inside the box and smashed home the opener past Whitecaps FC 2 goalkeeper Alexander Milošević.

Down 1-0 with fans still streaming in, WFC2 regained their composure. Leading goalscorer Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau whipped a short cross across the top of the box for captain Jay Herdman, who saw his low strike almost palmed away by SKCII ’keeper Ryan Schewe. His follow-up attempt glanced off the woodwork, narrowly giving the home side the equalizer.

At the quarter hour, Milošević came up big. The 18-year-old bravely stood his ground to kick out two point-bank chances from SKCII forward Alenis Vargas.

Whitecaps FC 2 almost got on the board with a dangerous Myles Morgan header that looped past Schewe, but was kicked off the line by defender Chris Rindov.

Before the half, WFC2 defender Dembo Saidykhan was shown the red card after a late tackle inside his own area. Milošević faced down a Robert Avila penalty kick, with the goalkeeper denying the forward after he dove right to punch away the attempt.

After play restarted, Habibullah again found the back of the net with a 20-yard curler that dipped into the far corner.

Three minutes after he subbed on, SKCII's Jonathan Robinson put the away side up 3-0 to put the match away. Alenis Vargas added a fourth before the final whistle.

Up next, the young ’Caps continue their five-game homestand at Swangard Stadium and their push to the playoffs as they host North Texas SC on Sunday, September 8 at 4 p.m. PT.
