VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC defender Jasser Khmiri has been called up to the Tunisian men’s national team for a pair of friendlies this month.
Khmiri, who has previously been called up to national training camps, will be looking for his first senior cap when Tunisia host Sudan at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Radès on October 9, and face Nigeria in a neutral-site match in Austria on October 13.
As a result, Khmiri will not be joining the 'Caps on their five-game road trip beginning this Saturday when they visit Seattle Sounders FC. The 23-year old centre back will rejoin his Vancouver teammates following a 10-day quarantine in Portland, Oregon. Khmiri has made five starts in the 2020 MLS regular season.
The Eagles of Carthage are in the midst of preparations for upcoming 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifying matches that had been underway prior to the competition coming to a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tunisia are currently top of Group J with a 2-0-0 record and are set to play Tanzania 1-0-1 on November 9 and 17.
