On Thursday, MLS announced the 'Caps will kick off the next phase of their 2020 season with a three-match trip out east, beginning with matches at Toronto FC on August 18 and 21.
Here are some of the 'Caps top moments from past encounters between the two giant Canadian rivals:
#5. July 1, 2008: ‘Caps draw first blood in inaugural meeting
Facing the heavily-favoured MLS side Toronto FC on their own turf, the USL First Division side Whitecaps stood tall and strong to pull of a famous victory at BMO Field in Toronto.
In their first ever meeting, the ‘Caps had goalscorer Martin Nash and goalkeeper Jay Nolly to thank, as they left Toronto with a huge 1-0 victory in the Canadian Championship.
Goal, clean sheet, away win. Check.
#4. October 6, 2018: Giant win away from home ends TFC's title reign
The ‘Caps knew going in ahead of their match that only a victory would suffice.
TFC knew the same, as they were fighting to stay alive in the playoff race for the opportunity to defend their MLS Cup title.
The ‘Caps stormed to victory courtesy of hometown kid Russell Teibert and Kei Kamara.
#3. May 14, 2016: ‘Caps come out on top in thriller at BMO Field.
Winning away at Toronto FC for the first time ever in the MLS-era, and doing it in style, with action from everyone involved.
Kekuta Manneh and Sebastian Giovinco tried to one-up the other and each finished with two goals and an assist.
Pedro Morales scored a beauty late for the eventual winner.
The match also included some brilliant saves - including a penalty stop by David Ousted, and a red card welcome for hometown kid Fraser Aird.
#2. May 16, 2012: Eric. Hassli. Volley.
Words cannot describe the beauty of this goal. There’s a reason why it’s considered possibly the greatest ever goal scored in Canadian Championship history.
Enjoy.
#1. March 19, 2011: ‘Caps score big win in first ever MLS match
First match on the biggest stage? Face off against your arch rivals? No big deal for the 'Caps.
Playing on Bell Pitch at Empire Field, the ‘Caps stormed to a 4-2 victory over Toronto led by Eric Hassli and Vancouver native Terry Dunfield.
It even involved a memorable moment when ponchos were thrown onto the pitch in celebration.
It was the perfect start for the ‘Caps and set marker for to expect whenever the ‘Caps face Toronto.
